Born in Lauderdale County Alabama and moved to Madison County Tennessee at a young age. Moved to Prairie County AR in 1858.

Entered the Confederate Army from Hickory Plains, Prairie Co., AR and served as a Private in Co. C, 25th Regiment Arkansas Infantry from March 1862 to June 1863.

One of the organizers of the Wattensas Farmer's Club at the McBee School in Prairie Co. on February 15, 1882 to address the problems of farmers. After a month the name of the organization was changed to the Agricultural Wheel, which quickly grew to a state-wide organization.
