OBIT: J. W. Fling Sr. Is Summoned - John W. Fling Sr., retired railroad worker and farmer and a long time resident of Wyoming died at his home her Saturday night, Nov. 24 following a prolonged illness. Mr. Fling had been in failing health since August of 1944. Mr. Fling had lived in Stark county for 60 years and had been a resident of Wyoming for 53 years. Last January Mr. and Mrs. Fling celebrated their sixty-eighth wedding anniversary. Immediate relatives surviving are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Naomi Newton, who lives in the parental home and three sons LeRoy E. Fling and John W, Fling, both of Wyoming and Frank M. Fling of Liberal, Kan. He is also survived by three grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Born May 8, 1855, on a farm near Indianapolis, Ind., he was the youngest son of James and Rebecca Fling. His father was born in Virginia in 1794 was a veteran of the war of 1812. Mr. Fling married to Rebecca Bolander at Bridgeport, Ind., Jan 25, 1877 and four children were four to this union all of the them surviving. In 1884 the family moved to Illinois and settled on a farm near Princeville and the following year moved to Duncan, Ill., where Mr. Fling was employed in maintenance work for the Chicago Burlington & Quincy railroad for several years. In the years 1891 to 1893 Mr. Fling again engaged in farming and during that period was manger of a large farm owned by the late Andrew J. Scoot of Duncan and Galesburg. In 1893 he returned to the railroad work and was an employee of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific company for nearly 25 years, retiring on a pension from the railroad May 8, 1925 at the age of 70 years. He was a member of the Methodist church since 1893 and following his retirement from the railroad work was custodian of the Wyoming Methodist church for 10 years. Funeral service were held at the Gillespie mortuary this afternoon at 2 ‘clock, with Rev. C. R. Nicholas, pastor of the Wyoming Methodist church, in charge assisted by Rev. A. A. Finders, pastor of the Wyoming Free Methodist church. Interment was in Wyoming cemetery.
