Edith was born to William and Martha Cassidy Brumwell in Lakefield, Ontario, Canada on August 20th, 1880. The family moved to Edinburg, Walsh, North Dakota to homestead in 1883. Edith married John Leonard Howe there on 9 April 1902. The couple lived there a short time then moved to Devils Lake, Ramsey, North Dakota; then moved to her homestead at Souris in the Minot area. She died at Golden Acres Manor on 14 June 1973. She was 92.
