The following information was contributed by Carole Nurmi Cummings, a Dutch descendant from the 1600s and a great granddaughter.

WILL of DANIEL HARING: May 1844

In the name of God Amen, I Daniel J Haring of the Town of Orangetown, in the County of Rockland and the State of New York considering the uncertainty of this Mortal life, and being of sound and perfect mind and memory (blessed be almighty God for the same) do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following that is today.

First I do give devise and bequeath (after the payment of all just debts and funeral expenses) unto my beloved wife Anna should she survive me, the use of all of my real and personal estate for her maintenance and support as long as she shall live, or remain my widow after my decease.

Secondly---I do hereby give and devise unto my two sons viz-John Haring and James Smith Haring and to their heirs and assigns (subject to the use of my wife as above mentioned) my farm lying and being on the line of the States of New York and New Jersey (called the old place containing between sixty and seventy acres) to be divided equally between them share and share alike. I do also hereby give and devise unto my two sons above mentioned viz John Haring and James Smith Haring and to their heirs and assigns my twenty five acre lot, called Old Tappan situate in the Town Harington, in the State of New Jersey, to be divided equally between them share and share alike.

Thirdly---Whereas I have heretofore by deed conveyed to my son James Smith Haring, a lot of land containing about two acres I do hereby give and devise all the rest, residue, and remainder of my real estate not hereinbefore devised (subject to the use of my wife as aforesaid) to my sons John and James Smith Haring and my Daughters Sarah and Elizabeth their heirs and assigns to be so divided between them that my said son John and my said Daughters shall each have two acres more thereof than my said son James.

Fourthly, I give and bequeath out of my personal estate subject to the use of my wife as aforesaid to my son James Three hundred Dollars, to my son John and to my daughter Elizabeth each one hundred Dollars and to my executor hereinafter named one hundred Dollars in trust nevertheless to invest the same in any manner they may think most advantageous and pay over to my daughter Sarah the annual interest thereof upon her own receipt and request during her life and upon her death to pay the said principal sum to her heirs.

Fifthly, I give and bequeath to my said son James Smith Haring the horse called the major horse, a one horse wagon and harness, a farm wagon and harness, and a plough and harness.

Sixthly, All of the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate subject to the use of my wife as aforesaid I give and bequeath to my said children John, James, Sarah and Elizabeth to be equally divided between them.

Seventhly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my sons John and James and my friends Isaac J Blauvelt of Nyack, Executors of this my last will and testament, in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hands and seal the ----- day of May in the Year of our Lord on thousand eight hundred and forty four.
