DEATH OF MRS. TERRY
Mrs. Eleanor Terry died at her residence in this place at 10 o'clock Friday evening, and endeared to us as she was by every tie of personal affection since our early boyhood, it is with a heavy heart that we attempt to portray on this brief page an epitome of those virtues etc....
Mrs. Terry was born near Leatherwood, Henry County, Virginia, the 6th of February, 1805. She was the daughter of Benjamin F. Dyer, who died a member of the Virginia House of Burgesses in the winter of 1825, and was united in
marriage to Abner R. Terry in 1828. They removed to Christian County, Ky. in 1830, to Trigg County in 1838, and to this place in 1844.
...Mr. Terry died in the fall of 1847 ...she continued to occupy the old homestead up to the date of her death.
Her family connection was a very extensive one, and those at all familiar with the earlier annals of the "Old Dominion" will recall the fact that both branches of her ancestors, the DYERS and the GRAVELYS, were prominent
characters there from the very beginning of her history as a state..(Her Children:) Mrs.Burnett, Mrs. Hopper, Mrs. McCarty, Mrs. White and Mrs. Grace...(deceased)....Her sons are Capt. Ben D. Terry, a prominent Confederate officer in Morgan's command, Capt. F. G. Terry, cashier of the Bank of Cadiz, Lieut. S. W. Terry, of the American Navy, and Mr. George Terry, a single-hearted gentleman and a resident of this place.
...She rarely ever left home except to attend the Associations of the old Primitive Baptist Church, of which she was a member ...during her long lingering confinement...."

When she was widowed at 42, she was left with 8 children; the youngest, Lucy, was 1 yr. and the oldest, Ben D., was 16. Mary, 17, had married in April of that year (1847).
