ANDERSON — Phyllis J. Dishman Calhoun Downs, 83, on April 17, 2010, surrounded by her family, God wrapped His arms around her and took her home.

She was born Jan. 13, 1927, in Greenfield, the daughter of Charles and Hazel (Mitchell) White. She was a graduate of Maxwell High School. She retired from MCL Cafeteria. She was a member of Corner Stone Ministries.

Phyllis had resided in Anderson most of her life with her husband, the Rev. Jack A. Downs, and children. She devoted her life to her children and her church family.

Because of her tender heart, she always wept when she was presented gifts and therefore was teased about her "crying towel."

Survivors include . . ..

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Charles White; and sisters, Betty McMasters and Thelma White.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Huff officiating. Burial will be in East Maplewood Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to C.J.'s Abundant Care of Chesterfield.
