Constance Jennifer Mattson Becklian died peacefully in her home on December 18 after two years of living with cancer. Constance was born June 19, 1917, in Libertyville, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her father, Sebert Andrew Mattson and her mother, Edith Everitt Mattson; her husband of 53 years, Dr. Kach Thomas Becklian; her son, Robert Koren Becklian; and her brothers, David Dale, Andrew Stewart, Everitt and Theodore Bert Mattson.
She is survived by her sisters, Dorothy (Errold) Graham and Jacqueline (Robert) Baumgart; brother, James William (Alice Close); daughters, Pamela Hollender and Barbalyn (James) Machowski; grandchildren, Robert Kach (Patti) Kerkorian, Heather (Andrew) Rocheford, Rebecca Hollender, Lisa Berenberg and Katherine Machowski; great grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas and Jacob Kerkorian; great aunt, Alice Higgins, plus many loving nieces and nephews. Friends and other family members who supported her lovingly during her illness are Mary Bedrosian, Mary Ciarico, Linda Hutton, Diane Leslie, Joseph Mendel, Nancy Spalding, Neva Spalding, Vrabel Umek and her caregiver Krystyna Procik.
Constance was cared for at home during the last four months of her illness by Condell Hospice, Libertyville. She received regular visits at home from nurse Elina Tiplitsky, certified nursing assistant, Ann Moorman, administrator Ann Landmark, and social worker Pat Flowers.
Constance graduated from Park Ridge School for Girls, Park Ridge, Illinois, as valedictorian. She was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Waukegan, and volunteered at North Elementary School and Daniel Webster Junior High School, Waukegan. She also supported the activities of the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Constance had an avid interest in family genealogy and assisted in the completion of a professional family genealogy prepared by Ms. Alice Close. This genealogy culminated her family's life-long search for their father Sebert Andrew who disappeared in 1928. Together with her family Constance prepared a memorial service for her father and brother, Theodore Bert. The service was conducted at Lake Forest Cemetery in 1996 and it brought her father and brother back into the family after so many years. Constance is in our hearts forever.
Visitation 9:30AM-10:00AM, Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, 410 Grand Ave., Waukegan. Service 10:00AM at Christ Episcopal Church, Father Donald Moon officiating. Interment Northshore Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Therese Hospital Childrens Services in the name of Constance Becklian. Arrangements by MARSH FUNERAL HOME of Waukegan.
