John A Griffith was a resident of Montezuma, Poweshiek County, Iowa, when he enlisted as a Private on 15 Feb 1864 at the age of 18. He mustered in Co E 4th Iowa Cavalry the same day as his enlistment. John mustered out 17 May 1865 at Cincinnati, Ohio, under a special order of the War Department A.G.O. dated 3 May 1865; cause not stated. He was probably a convalescent in the hospital.
