He was born in East Lake. He was a member of Baylake United Methodist Church and was a member of the Chancel Choir and the Bayside Masonic Lodge #218.
He is survived by his wife, Frances J. Basnight; two sons: Daniel E. Basnight and wife Elizabeth of Charlottesville, Va. and James C. Basnight and wife Donna of Virginia Beach; and grandchildren Brett L. and Bryan D. Basnight of Charlottesville and Lori M. and Lindsey M. Basnight of Virginia Beach.
A graveside service was to be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, August 5 by the Rev. Red David and the Rev. Joseph French at Princess Anne Memorial Park. Holloman-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.
