Sallie was the fourth of eight children born to William Moffett (an immigrant from Ireland who became a successful dry goods merchant) and Elizabeth Shuman. When Susan was 11 her father died in a Cholera epidemic. Her mother died when she was 18 and she and her brother Samuel (16), one year later per the 1840 Census, appear to be living with their mother's cousin, James Pearson Bowman, a dry goods merchant, in Bucyrus, Ohio.

Sallie (21) and James (30) married 2 years later in 1842 in Dresden where her sister was living. One year later (1843) their daughter was born but she died at almost 3 years old in 1846. Ten months later they had a son followed by another son in 1851.

Sallie died in Bucyrus at 85 years old in 1906.

Sallie is my GG Aunt.
