Major League Baseball Player. He was an infielder making his debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 13, 1939. For twelve seasons, he played with the Pittsburgh Pirates (1939-48), Chicago Cubs in 1949 and St. Louis Browns in 1950. He was three time All-Star (1946-48), ending his career with a record of 1214 hits, 553 runs scored, 38 home runs, 480 runs batted in, a .265 batting average and a .946 fielding percentage.
