1709 - came to the Carolina Colony with a sister. Settled along the Roanoke and head waters of the Neuse River.

1711 - on Oct 2, war with the Indians broke out and 130 German settlers were killed including the sister. Jacob held out some tobacco and was able to escape, running and walking 90 miles in one day. He travelled north as far as Byberry in Philadelphia County, PA, from whence he later moved to Bucks County. He was the first white man to settle on the tract of land he purchased in Bucks County, around 1726.
