HORSEHEADS, NY --Dominick J Abrunzo, Loving Father, Grandfather, Great Grandfather and Friend, age 76 of 209 Meadowbrook Parkway East Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday January 18, 2001 very unexpectedly.
Mr. Abrunzo was born July 6, 1924 in Laquin Pennsylvania the son of the late Pasquale and Amalia Taddeo Abrunzo.
Dominick was a graduate of Williamsport High School Class of 1942. Dominick was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War serving his country with the 285th Ordinance in the US Army. Dom was a 1950 alumnus of Penn State University.
He married his beloved wife, Catherine “Kay” Noviello Abrunzo, on May 28, 1949 and she pre-deceased him on January 23, 1996.
Mr Abrunzo was a communicant of St. Mary Our Mother Church in Horseheads, a member of Horseheads Elks Lodge #2297, and a volunteer for Meals On Wheels. He was an avid golfer and a member of Corning Country Club since 1964.
Dominick was a retired engineer for Corning Inc. with 33 years of dedicated service having retired in 1986.
Mr. Abrunzo was a multi-talented handyman, electrician, and wood-worker. He enjoyed creating stained glass lamps and various items for his family and friends.
Mr. Abrunzo was pre-deceased by his father Pasquale in 1939, his mother Amalia in 1964, his brother Anthony in 1979, and his sisters Jennie and Virginia.
Dominick is survived by his daughters and sons-in-law: Jennie and James Vegard of Canandaigua, NY, Mary and Richard McNeilly of Horseheads, NY, Virginia Abrunzo of Horseheads, NY, and Donna and Terry Crozier of Horseheads, NY; son and daughter-in-law: Anthony and Susanna Abrunzo of Elmira, NY; grandchildren; Tracy (Charles) Wemple, Tina (Abe) Lawrence, Anthony McNeilly, Danny Vegard, Ashley Crozier, Amanda Crozier, Marissa McNeilly, Dominick A. Abrunzo, Calla Ann Abrunzo, and Michael Abrunzo; great-grandchildren: Amalia Dolley and Nicholas Dolley; sisters; Mary Noviello and Kate Cioffi both of Williamsport, PA; several sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends including his golfing and fishing buddies.
Friends are invited to call at the Van Buskirk-Lynch Funeral Home, Mill St. & Grand Central Ave. Horseheads, NY on Monday January 22, 2001 from 11 AM to 1 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday January 22, 2001 at 2 PM in St. Mary Our Mother Church. The Rev. Robert C. MacNamara will be the Celebrant of Mr. Abrunzo’s Funeral Mass. Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery Horseheads, NY.
