The News at Whittier, Calif., under date of April 11, gives the following account of the life of Mrs. Mary Dunn Spencer, formerly of Beatrice, who passed away recently at her home at Whittier:
Mrs. Mary Dunn Spencer was born May 5, 1866, at Lisbon, Ill., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Sutherland. Soon after her birth the family removed to Greenleaf, Kas., and later to Nebraska, where the deceased was married in 1882 to Richard Payson Dunn. Ten children were born to this union, four of whom preceded their mother in deah.
Mr. and Mrs. Dunn and their family came to Whittier in 1919, Mr. Dunn passing away in 1920. He was a member of Rosecrans Post No. 182, G. A. R.
In 1925, Mrs. Dunn became the wife of Charles Spencer, who passed away three years later at their home in Pomona.
Surviving the deceased are six children: Warren Dunn of Fairbury, David Dunn of Norwalk, Eleanor Dunn Mueller of Norwalk, Ivan W. Dunn of Whittier, Earl Dunn of Norwalk, and Dr. Arlo Dunn of Omaha, Neb.
Three sisters and one brother also survive, Mrs. Clara Nuzman of Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Ella M. Landers of LaGrande, Ore., Mrs. Adeline Raymond of Pendleton, Ore. Besides these, numerous relatives and pioneer friends from Nebraska mourn her loss, as well as one brother-in-law, James Raymond of Los Angeles, a Civil War veteran 94 years of age.
Funeral services for Mrs. Spencer were conducted by Rev. W. C. Cheverton of the Christian church, assisted by Rev. H. D. Zimmerman, an old family friend.
Mrs. Spencer was a member of Arbutus Rebekah lodge, Women's Reilef corps no. 82, chapter member of Daughter of Union Veterans of the Civil War, charter member of American War Mothers, member of the auxilary to the American Legion, Lyra Chapter Easter Star, Service club, Post-office club, and Legion of Foreign Wars. She was also a past president of the auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
