Funeral services for Columbus Lum Newburn III, age 63, of Jacksonville are scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, in the Autry Funeral Home chapel, Jacksonville, with Bro. Barnwell Anderson and Bro. Hal Brunson officiating.

Burial will follow at Still Waters Memorial Gardens, Jacksonville.

Mr. Newburn passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, in Jacksonville.

He was born Oct. 10, 1946, in Jacksonville.

Mr. Newburn was a deacon and member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Jacksonville, CEO of Newburn Health Services and a member of Grand Lodge of Texas.

He served as sergeant E5 in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam 1967-1968 in the 101st Airborne, one tour with 5 Special Forces Group, Green Berets.

He also attended Jacksonville College, The University of Texas at Austin and Baptist Theological Seminary in Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. C.L. Newburn and Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Davis.

Survivors include wife, Sharon Kay Newburn of Jacksonville; parents, C.L. and Gwen Newburn of Jacksonville; son, Lum Newburn IV of Tyler; daughter, Sarah Nicole Newburn of Tyler; sister, Jan Newburn Brazier of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be David Johnson, Mike Tisdale, Curtis Fitzgerald, Roy Darby, James Spivey, John Crawford, Coach Greg Young, Coach Cinco Boone and Coach Joe Shidler.

Honorary pallbearers will be Vietnam Veterans Group, Palestine, JHS Class of '65 and Bob McMakin.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, at Autry Funeral Home, Jacksonville.

Memorials in memory of Mr. Newburn may be made to Jacksonville Jaguar Athletic Department of Jacksonville College, Olen Peters and Vernon Harton Scholarship Fund.
