Anna Bell Kinney Stephens

When a young woman, she and three brothers migrated south from near the Nebraska boarder. One brother, Perry Kinney, stopped at Wichita, Kansas. Jake Kinney, Andrew (Link) Kinney, and Anna Belle traveled on to the Guthrie, Oklahoma vicinity. In 1890, when Annabelle arrived there, Guthrie was the state (territorial) capitol of Oklahoma. She got a job in the printing department at 5 cents an hour.
Anna Belle and brother Link Kinney and future husband William Stephens were in the 22 Sept 1891 OK Territory Land Run, known as the Iowa Land Run. This was for Iowa, Sac, Fox, Pottawatomie, and Shawnee Land, Counties A an B later to become Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties. A picture of them before the run was preserved with family records, so we have this photo. It is not known for sure, but I do not believe any of them were to claim land in this run. Have not been able to find a record of land claim. Anna Belle Kinney married William B Stephens in Guthrie on Jan 30, 1892. He was a widower with 6 year old daughter, Lula. There first child Roy was born 1 Dec 1899 in Kildare, Kay Co., OK and the 1900 Census shows them living in Newkirk, Kay Co, OK. Ray Stephens was born 29 Apr 1902 near Newkirk in Kay Co., OK and Perry Stephens was born 10 Feb 1904 in Creek Co., OK.
William Stephens seemed to be a rover as their first years of marriage were spent between Uncas, Guthrie, Beggs, Newkirk, Wichita, Grainola. They finally located 2 miles north of Grainola on February 21, 1920. Mr. Stephens died on July 31, 1921 at the home, which was in Osage Co., OK.
