"Funeral Rites For B.R. Carney Set Here Today"
Funeral services will be held here Friday for Boatner R. Carney, native of Slaughter and one-time pilot for Chennault's "Flying Tigers," who died in El Paso, Tex., Monday following a long illness.

Carney, 59, had been employed in Baton Rouge as a salesman at Delta Tank Co. from 1953 to 1962 and had resided here for a number of years before moving to Texas in August.

He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Boatner R. Carney, Sr., of Slaughter. Educated in public schools, he attended Mississippi College in Clinton, Miss., and LSU.

Carney joined the Army Air Corps and received his pilot training at Randolph Field in San Antonio, Tex. He resigned his commission and joined Chennault's volunteer air group in China for a number of years, where he won a number of honors.

He was a member of the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Air Squadron from March, 1955, to March, 1959. He was commander of the group for one year.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. A.B. Young of Ethel and Mrs. G.R. Donnell of Slaughter; two nieces and a nephew.

Religious services will be conducted by the Rev. Seab Hayes at Rabenhorst Funeral Home. Interment will be in Young Family Cemetery at Plains.
