William was the son of Clement and Ann Dillon Brooke. He was born in Baltimore. He served in an artillery company at Fort McHenry in September of 1814, trained in medicine, followed his folks to Zanesville, moved to Knox County and set up practice in Danville where he died.

He and his wife were the parents of eleven children, Moses Dillon, Ann Elizabeth Brooke Bane, Martha Jane Brooke Ocheltree, Clement, Thomas Goff, Sara Ellen Hagerty Hindel Brooke, John Huntington, Samuel W., William L., and Emma I Brooke Williams. The name of a fifth daughter is unknown.

Though this memorial was erected in the Cedar Hill Cemetery, it is believed by descendents that William is buried in a small cemetery in Danville, Knox. Ohio.
