Crandall was born July 26, 1935 in Brookfield, NY the son of Paul Trevor and Grace Allen (Crandall) Burch. He entered the U S Army right after high school. He served 26 years in the military service, with numerous decorations which consist of the Bronze Star Medal and a Purple Heart Medal. He served two tours in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. He was also awarded two medals from the Republic of Vietnam.
Crandall spent his last 30 years with long-time friend Susie Kiley, residing in Junction City. Crandall was employed by the City of Junction City as a housing inspector. Crandall became known as Grandpa Carl to Susie's family. He became very close to all the kids.
