J.R. Fout was born in Elizabeth Arkansas to Homer E. and Jessie Pemberton Fout on April 12, 1931. He was oldest child of six children. He had a sister, Bonnie, sister, Carolyn Sue and brother, John E. Twin brothers died at birth. He grew up at his grandparent's home and dairy; John Richard and Sara Hickman Fout and drove his milk truck to families in the Salem, Viola and Elizabeth area.

J.R. married Rexie Irene Kerley, Sept. 6, 1949 and moved to Texas shortly thereafter. J.R. and Irene had four children; Linda, Gary, Becky and Mike. J.R. loved playing the guitar and entertaining people. His life included being a truck driver where he could travel, meet people and his wife could travel with him. As the children grew older, Irene traveled with J.R. to many states and would send cards home to their grandchildren.

He was known as "Baw Baw" to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He loved riding his grandchildren on his tractor at his home in Tyler.
