Robert William McKay
Robert William McKay, 94, the last of a pioneer family, passed away at the Woodlawn convalescent home in Waterloo Tuesday, Nov. 17. He had resided there the past seven years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, from the Fawcett funeral home at Winthrop with the Rev. Robert D. Kendall officiating. Interment was in the Silver Creek cemetery.
Mr. McKay was born April 14, 1865, on a farm near Silver Creek in Delaware county, the son of Robert and Mary McKay. They passed away while he was young and he lived with foster parents until 17 years of age. At that time he went to the state of Pennsylvania to live with a half sister and family, residing there five years.
He lived in Kansas for a time before returning to Iowa in 1880 to farm several years in Buchanan county, later moving to Winthrop where he made his home until 1952. Being then unable to live alone, he moved to Waterloo. He was never married.
He was a faithful member of the Methodist church.
He is survived by several nieces and a nephew and also several great nieces and great nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, a sister, Margaret, two brothers, John and Charles, also a half brother, and four half sisters.
