Thomas Harvey and Julia Ann Howard moved to Durant, Indian Territory from South of Waco, McLennon County, Texas. All their 10 children moved with them, the two oldest being married. The three families traveled together in wagons and lived in tents until they could build a house in Durant.

Thomas was a farmer and carpenter, working as a carpenter when he wasn't busy on the farm. Soon the family moved to the Roberta Community and lived on a farm far a number of years. They then moved into Roberta. Thomas continued to farm after moving into Roberta.
