SPRINGFIELD - Norma Jean Adkins of Springfield passed away April 24, 2010, peacefully in her sleep at home, a day shy of her 82nd birthday.

She was born April 25, 1928, in Springfield, the daughter of John W. and Millie E. Hart. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Mildred E. Naschinski in 2001.

She is survived by her husband, David C. Adkins; seven children, David R. (Ruth) Adkins of Springfield, Gary (Karen) Adkins of Springfield, Richard (Margie) Adkins of Springfield, Debra (Karl) Freburg of Fishers, IN, Diane (Tom) Wilson of Chatham, John Adkins of Springfield and James Adkins (Shirley Gioia) of Chicago; a brother, John (Bonnie) Hart of Decatur; twelve grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren with a fourth expected this summer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norma was a graduate of Springfield High School and Brown's Business College. She was employed by Dirksen and Sons from 1946-1950 then was a business manager and bookkeeper for Adkins Floor Covering Services. She was also a homemaker.

She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She formerly enjoyed needlepoint.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Staab Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, with Pastor Sara Isbell officiating. Burial will be held at Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.
