He was born Johann Georg Bamberg in Bamberg, Baveria, Germany in June 1760.
Husband of Mary Ann Allen. It is believed that they were married in January 1781 in Lexington, South Carolina, USA.
Father of the following known children: John Frederick, Nancy Rose, Rachel, Stephen, George, Daniel, Anna Catherine and daughter Bamberg.
Many of John & Mary Bamberg's decendants were located in South Carolina, Louisiana and Alabama until more recently. Now they are scattered all over the United States.
John George Bamberg was buried in the pioneer cemetery two and a half miles north of his property in Barnwell County. An inscribed stone marker was placed on his grave in the 1930s,37 but when the old cemetery fell into ruin, the marker was moved a few miles away to Mt. Pleasant Lutheran Church Cemetery. It is regrettable that much of the inscription is erroneous. The unmarked site of the pioneer cemetery is in an overgrown, wooded area five and a half miles west of Ehrhardt, about one quarter mile off the south side of highway 64, in present Bamberg County. No sign of any graves can be found.38
