C. R. Currie, aged about 58, [died unexpectantly] at his home in Garrison.
A TIMES man was in his place of business yesterday near noon, and engaged in conversation with him for several minutes, and to all appearances he was in the best of health. Quoting a part of our conversation, he stated that his church always came first, and that over a period of several years he had only missed one regular service. He was devoted to the work of the church, the Sunday school and young people's church groups. He was a member and efficient worker in the Masonic fraternity, including the Blue Lodge and also the Garrison Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
He was a loyal citizen and a good neighbor and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He moved to Garrison about sixteen years ago, and has been engaged in the jewelry business during this time. He was serving the Garrison precinct as justice of the peace.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon or later, awaiting communication with a sister living in New York. The services will be conducted at the Central Baptist church and will be concluded at Garrison cemetery, with Masonic funeral rites being observed.
Deceased is survived by his wife; one son, Travis Currie; daughter, Miss Dale Currie; and one grandson, all of Garrison. Three brothers: Melvin Currie, Fastrill; Bethel Currie and D. V. Currie of Hemphill; three sisters, Mrs. C. M. Kindred, Vivian, La.; Miss Rubye Currie, Vivian, La.; Miss Bennie Currie, New York City.
