Charles Leonard Paige
Dec 9 1896-Apr 23, 1961

Charles was born in Detroit Michigan Dec 9 1896, the first son of German Polish parents that were first generation Americans. Charles grew up in Detroit and joined the United States Marines during World War I. After returning home from the war, Charles joined the Detroit Fire Department April 10, 1919. He also joined the Detroit Fireman Baseball League and played baseball during the 1920s and 30s having a batting average of 444 in 1922 and 1923.

Charles married his sweetheart Louise Kroll in 1920 and over the next 25 years they had 9 children and "adopted" 2 teenagers whose parents had died.

Charles retired from the Detroit Fire Department as Battalion Chief of the 5th Battalion on August 14, 1951. After retiring he owned and operated a party store near U of D for a few years. Still not ready to really "retire" he worked as a pipe fitter for a few years. Charles died of a heart attack at his home in Dearborn Apr 23 1961.
