"Captain J.H. Duffield of Jerseyville, IL., whose death occurred yesterday. Mount Pleasant. In 1861, he enlisted in Company F. Second Iowa Infantry, in which organization he served during the Civil War.
After the war he married Miss Martha Malissa Stanard, a sister of former Governor E.O. Stanard of St. Louis. Four children survive. They are: Mrs. Walter Irish and Miss Ida Duffield of Des Moines, IA.; Mrs. Edwin L. Sharon of No. 4206 Cleveland avenue, St. Louis, and Edwin Duffield. Captain Duffield also leaves three brothers and two sisters: George, James and Henry Duffield, all of Pittsburg, IA.; Mrs. Maria Funk of Guthrie, OK., and Mrs. Thornton Matthias of Turner, OR.
Captain Duffield located in Jerseyville in 1883, when he became superintendent of the Stanard elevators there.
Captain Duffield has been a prominent member of Lowe Post, Grand Army of the Republic, and of the Jerseyville lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Both organizations will participate in the funeral services.
The funeral will take place this afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, from the First Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville. The pastor, the Reverend J.G. Klene, will officiate. After the services, the funeral party will take the body to Keosauqua, IA., where the burial will take place on Monday afternoon."
