Together they were the parents of Mary Amelia (Winkler) Williamson, Clara Phoebe (Winkler) Morris Clauder, William Peter Winkler, Christine "Tenie" (Winkler) Woodyard, Edna (Winkler) Grace, Carollinna "Carrie" Winkler, Wilhelmina "Mener" (Winkler) Reichardt, Alex Perdue Winkler, and Sarah Agnes (Winkler) Heyerdahl. Bertha died of pneumonia after shoveling snow in the Storm of '95.

Married (2) widow Marie Elizabeth (Bidel) Drucks. Together they were the parents of Frederick Edward Josef Winkler and Mary Elizabeth (Winkler) Simpson.

Reported to have been Sexton of the German Cemetery, now Washington Cemetery, when he died.
