Evan J. Lange, age 84, of Reedsburg, died on Thursday, October 1, 2015 in the Reedsburg Area Medical Center. He was born on the family farm in the Town of Excelsior, Sauk County on March 8, 1931. He was one of ten children born to Melvin and Lillian (Lange) Lange. Evan was a 1949 graduate of Baraboo High School. On June 1, 1951, he was married to the former Audrey P. Herritz. He was a very devoted husband to Audrey for over fifty-one years. Evan worked at Grede Foundry and the Chevy garage. He then went to school and received his master electrician license. Evan then went to work and Reed Gas and Electric for twenty-five years and later worked for seventeen years at Riberich Plumbing and Heating until his retirement in 1994. He was a charter member of the Jaycees, a member of the Eagles Club, a member and past president of the Reedsburg Outdoor Club, a twenty-five year member of the Reedsburg Fire Department rising to the rank of drill master. He was also a member of the 32nd Division of the National Guard. Evan always looked forward to spending time at the family cabin in Douglas County. Survivors include his two children: Jeff (Anne) Lange, of Reedsburg and Barbara (Larry) Roecker, of Solon Springs; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister: Carol (Mick) McIntyre, of Baraboo; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey, on December 19, 2003; his son: Steven Lange in 2002; his parents; five brothers: Stuart, Kendal, Melvin Jr. "Bingo," Milton and Donald "Ted;" three sisters: Mona Boye, Marge Fish and Allene Gibson; his father and mother-in-law: Paul and Wava Herritz Varnes and his stepfather: Harry Varnes. Funeral services will be conducted at 11: A.M. on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Reedsburg with Pastor David Glesne officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday at the Hoof Funeral Home in Reedsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated. The Hoof Funeral Home is serving the family.
