Richard Rickenbaugh Gerhart served as a Blacksmith 1st Class in the United States Naval Reserve Forces during World War I.

He was a son of Paul Gerhart and Eliza Atlee (Baumgardner) Gerhart.

He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Reserve Forces on June 11, 1917 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He received his discharge from the Navy on August 27, 1920 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He served overseas from about June 30, 1918 to December 5, 1918.

He was originally from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

He was married to Elizabeth (Baird) Gerhart.
