Born in Missouri her family moved back to Lycoming Co., Pennsylvania before November 1879. She married Charles Raymond Goodsell around 1895. Her son Paul was born in Davis, West Virginia in 1898. Her husband worked for the railroad so the family moved often they lived in Wyoming, Idaho, Colorado and finally Bakersfield California. Her daughter Ruth Lois Goodsell was born in Pueblo, Colorado in 1912. In 1927 Harriet stepped on a nail working on the chicken ranch she owned with her husband. She developed Tetanus and passed away.
