Edwin Sakrie Bergstedt, Sr., 82, of Cloquet died on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 in the Cloquet Nursing Home.

He was born on April 9, 1922 in South Range, Michigan to Sakrie and Ida (Nasi) Bergstedt. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Esko and married his high school sweetheart Luella Juntunen on July 31, 1942.

Edwin served his country during WWII as a member of the Navy Seabees. When he returned home, he went to work for several companies as a member of the Plumbers/Pipefitters Union. He also owned and operated the A&W Restaurant in Cloquet for a number of years.

Eddie was a lifelong member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko. He served on the church board and as Sunday School Superintendent. He was an avid hunter and fisherman; but his greatest joy came from his family.

Eddie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, William and James; and sister, Marian Widen.

He is survived by Luella, his wife of 62 years; son, Edwin "Butch" Jr. (Kathy); daughters, Eileen (Pete) Maki, Marcia (Corky) LeeJoice, Diane (Billy) Maunu, Joyce (Mike) Liikala all of Esko, and Mary (Bruce) Hemmila of Hermantown; brothers, Robert (Bernice) and Jacob (Elaine) both of Esko, and Peter (Joy) of Chisago City; sisters, Mildred (Kirk) Otto and Mabel Buumala both of California, Phyllis (Raymond) Barney of Cloquet, Peggy (Gary) Petersen of Arizona, Naomi (Gale) Hilman of Canada, and Jan (John) Pelto of South Dakota; brother-in-law, Milton Widen of Minneapolis; and sister-in-law, Dottie Bergstedt of Esko; fifteen grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 8, 2004 in Apostolic Lutheran Church in Esko. Military Honors were accorded by the Cloquet Combined Honor Guard. Burial was in Apostolic Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Northland Funeral Home in Cloquet.
