William Jasper Jennings Coonis was the son of Benjamin Franklin Coonis (formerly spelled Cunuices) and Sarah Ann Penter. He served in the U.S. Army during the Spanish American War. He married Sadie A. Davis on October 24, 1901 in Springfield, Missouri. He later married Hattie Thorpe on May 26, 1948 in Boone County, Arkansas. He was also married to Edith Tripp.
