Elizabeth Hahn was born in Germany to Conrad and Catherine Hahn. She came to the US when she was 15 and in 1858 married Conrad Cole. According to the 1900 census she had seven children (only four of whom were living) including John Henry Cole, Sarah K. Cole Mitchell, Charles E. Cole, William F. Cole, Caroline Frances Cole Taylor, and Lewis Walter Cole.
