A carpenter by trade, Thomas helped build many churches (the Concord and Chapel churches in particular) and several houses in Putnam county. According to a Roberta J Exline's family history "So to Speak", most were still standing 100 years later! He also carved wooden handles for tools.
At the age of 47, Tom succumbed to Bright's Disease, leaving his wife with all their kids still at home.
