Ira Hayes Dies Suddenly As He Mows Neighbor's Lawn.
Ira Hayes, 91, resident of 1112 South 16th Street, Centerville, passed away Monday, May 2, 2 pm while moving a neighbor's lawn.
He was born December 31, 1874 in Glendale, MO, the son of David and Lydia Martz Hayes. In 1897 he was married to Florence Wheeler in Missouri who died in 1906. He later married Lizzie Garrett, who passed away January 25, 1952. A resident of Centerville for the past 70 years, he had been employed as a coal miner.
An infant son, three brothers, one sister, eight half-brothers, two half-sisters, and a grandchild preceded him in death.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Don Smith of Centerville and Mrs. Earl Holthaus of Ames; two grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and two brothers, Noah and Fred Hayes, both of Centerville.
The body is at the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home. Funeral services for Ira Hayes, 91, resident of 1112 So. 16th, Centerville, who passed away Monday, will be held Thursday 10:30 am from the Miller-Wehrle Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.
