Clarence A. Upham was born July 3, 1882 at Fredericksburg and in May 1903 married Izetta Goldsberry (spelling of her last name not certain). Mr. Upham was a Fredericksburg town marshall before moving to New Hampton in 1924, where he acted as deputy sheriff for six months and later was sheriff five and one-half years. They he bought and operated "Polly's" rooming house near the court house and was also manager for the liquor store when first opened in New Hampton. He disposed of his property there last year and moved to Lebanon, Oregon where he died June 23rd, (1941). The body arrived in New Hampton Monday and funeral services were held at 2 p.m. the day day from Perry's Chapel with Rev. J.S. Lilley officiating.
Surviving are the widow, three children, Mrs. Harvey Gates, Franklin Park, Illinois; Dale of Mason City; and Mrs. Tim Donovan, New Hampton; two grandchildren and two brothers: Claud of Portland, Oregon and Earl of Gettysburg, South Dakota.
Burial was made in Graceland Cemetery at New Hampton. Casket bearers were Ed. Murphy, Lawler, F.E. Sherwood, John Tietjen, Albert Russell, John Wandro and George Murray, all of New Hampton.
