"I'm from Alabama, I'm from Missouri, I'm from Georgia, I'm from South Carolina"
He never would give a straight answer and sometimes he would throw in other Southern states. I believe he actually was born in Alabama, and the family does seem to have moved around a lot. They lived in Spartanburg when Charlie was a boy. His death certificate states he was born in Buncombe County NC. The 1930 US Census states Alabama. The 1920 Census, living in Rock Hill, SC, states he was born in NC. 1940 Census- Alabama. I think this mystery may never be solved.
