I strongly believe he was the son of John J and Ellen (Brennan) Prenger who were married in 1876. He was born in 1877, died in 1878 and their next child wasn't born until 1879. On the 1900 census it was reported that Ellen was the mother of 10 children, 9 living at the time, therefore John M. would have been the 10th child, deceased.
