Uriah Shrader married Mary Elizabeth Layfield in 1858. She was the eldest child of of John Jackson Layfield Sr. and Elizabeth Moats.
Corporal Uriah Shrader served honorably in the Union Army, Company D, 6th Regiment, West Virginia Infantry Volunteers, with his father-in-law John Layfield Sr. who enlisted at age 58, John Layfield Jr. and George Layfield.
Uriah and Mary became the parents of three children:
1. Phoebe Shrader: born Oct 10,1859 - died 1885
2. John Shrader: born Feb 16, 1863 - died 1864
3. Jacob Uriah Shrader: born March 13, 1865 - died 1929.
Uriah Shrader's older brother David Shrader born 1843 - died 1932, married Hannah Moats in 1867 and they had 12 children.
