Oran, September 13, 1945: Mrs. Cathryn Melton, 83 years old, wife of the late John F. Melton, died of infirmities of age at 12:02 am today at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Grover C. Harris.

The body was removed to the Bisplinghoff Funeral Home at Chaffee and will remain there until Saturday afternoon when funeral services will be conducted at 2 O'clock at the Methodist Church here with pastor, Rev. J. C. Reid, in charge. Burial will be in the Friend Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Melton was born October 3, 1862, at Yankeetown, Indiana, was married there to Mr. Melton in 1899, and the couple moved to Oran, where Mr. Melton engaged in the timber business and farming. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

She is survived by the daughter, a son, Bert P. Melton of Canalou, a sister, Mrs. C. W. (Flora) Green of Columbia, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Mr. Melton died in 1939.

Died in rural Oran, MO. Cathryn was the daughter of Dan and Amanda (Taylor) Hartley, wife of John F Melton.

John and Cathryn were preceded in death by a daughter, Irma Melton Benson (1892-1919), and a son, Myron, born 1896 in Yankeetown, Indiana. He died in 1937 and is buried in Delta County, Colorado.
