DAVID L BROADUS
Final rites were held at the graveside in the Purvis cemetery Tuesday afternoon for Attorney David L. Broadus of Beaumont, Texas. The services were conducted by the Rev. H. W. Shirley, pastor of the first Baptist church of Purvis.
Mr. Broadus was a brother of Attorney A. Q. Broadus of Purvis and in early years of his life made his home with his brother much of the time. Miss Kitty Gillis, niece of the late Mrs. A. Q. Brodus, also spent some time in the home, and when they were older, David Broadus and Kitty Gillis were married. For a time they resided at Lumberton and Purvis while he began the practice of his profession, but finally they went to Beaumont, Tex., where they made their home and reared their only son. Mr. Broadus was active in civic affairs and was a beloved citizen of Beaumont. On Wednesday of last week he and another lawyer were on a business trip to visit a client and on their way home they were involved in an automobile accident in children both were injured, Mr. Broadus critically. He was thought to be showing some improvement on Saturday but death come to him on Sunday. His body reached Purvis Monday night and rested at the Broadus home now occupied by Dr. and Mrs. Lloyd Z. Broadus, until time for the funeral.
David L. Broadus was the youngest son of the late Rev. M. H. Broadus of Wiggins, Miss., and Demarias Yates Broadus. He was born in Covington county, this state, but when very young, moved with his parents to Stone county, Miss.
In 1917 he graduated from the Perkinston Junior College and volunteered for service in the U. S. Navy during World War I. After the war he came to Purvis to serve as Deputy Chancery Clerk under J. D. Sumrall for approximately one year before entering into the practice of law.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Kitty Gillis Broadus, one son Billy Jack Broadus, two grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters; Ira L. Broadus, of Wiggins and Atty. A. Q. Broadus, of Purvis; two sisters, Mrs. Lina Deitz, of Beaumont, Miss., and Mrs. Della Spikes, of Brookhaven, Miss.
Active pallbearers were: Mayor Quitman Lott, W. E. Anders, Robert Livingston, Judge Sebe Dale, S. E. Watts, Talmage Saucier, D. C. Bilbo and Vernon Broome.
