Dorothy Marie Pearce was born September 24, 1925, in Farrell, Mercer County, Pennsylvania. She was the first daughter and the fifth of ten children.
In 1941, her family moved to New Castle, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania.
She is the daughter of William Wade Pearce and Anna Bell (Diamond) Pearce, of New Castle, Pennsylvania.
She married John Peter Carey on October 18,
1947, in New Castle, Pennsylvania. They have 8
children: 7 girls and 1 boy; 20 grandchildren and
7 great grandchildren.
After WWII, the family moved from Penns., to Compton, California. They went to California at the urging of her brother, James Edward Pearce, who provided the Carey family with a 3 bedroom duplex, in Compton, Calif.
Dorothy worked for 20 years for the Compton Police Departmen, where she was a
Communications Officer.
She attended Compton College, and California State University, Fullerton, where she received a Bachlor Of Arts Degree in History.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, John Peter Carey; 4 sisters: Marjoris Direnzo, Mary
Hogue, Carolyn Ann Pearce, and Virginia Hamilton; two brothers: Judge James E. Pearce of
Murrieta, Calif, and Richard Pearce of Cerritos, California.
Dorothy and her family lived in Compton for
17 years, The family grew and in 1970. they moved to Cerritos, Calif, where they now live.
Her family joined "Holy Family Church, Artesia, Calif, where Dorothy was an active
participant.
Dorothy enjoyd spending time with her family, reading mystery novels, camping at the beach, upholstering furniture, square dancing, and attending bible study.
She was a devoted wife, wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.
She was loved by all, and will be deeply missed.
