ALMA JEAN BYRD JACKSON

Mrs. Alma Jean Byrd Jackson, of Ariton, died Saturday, May 8, 2010, at her home following an extended illness. She was 82. Funeral services will be held at 11:00a.m. Wednesday, May 12, 2010, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home in Ozark with Reverend Ronnie Jackson, Reverend Joe Underwood, and Reverend Paul McMonagle officiating. Interment will follow in Mount Olive Cemetery, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 P. M. until 8:00 P. M. Tuesday, May 11, 2010. Flowers will be accepted. Mrs. Jackson was born February 13, 1928 in Dale County where she lived her entire lifetime. She was the daughter of the late Carroll I. and Lucy Ezell Byrd. She was a member of Rocky Head Baptist Church and the Ruth Sunday School Class. She belonged to the Eastern Star in Brundidge and the American Legion. Mrs. Jackson and her husband owned and operated "Jackson and Sons" service station for 28 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; Edsel M. "Skeets" Jackson, two brothers; Lex O. Byrd and Maxwell Byrd, one sister; Wanda McKnight, and a grandson, Dennis Avery Stewart. Survivors include one sister; Catherine Wise, one brother; Ted Byrd and wife Jeanette, two daughters, Dianne Howell and Benie Jean Adkinson (Durl), three sons; Larry Norman Jackson, Edsel M. Jackson, Jr. and Kathy, Terry Wayne Jackson and Terri, thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive. Holman Funeral Home of Ozark, (334) 774-5348, is in charge of arrangements.
