Samuel Keffer, blacksmith, was son of Jacob and Margaret "Peggy" (Fizer) Keffer.

He married Mary Wade Bateman on April 12, 1832, and the family moved from Pulaski County, Virginia, to near Beckley, West Virginia, about 1856.

Samuel was a blacksmith and innkeeper, and had seven children: Dr. William Henry, Susan R., Charles Henderson, Sarah W., Mary Margaret, Edmonia C., and Laura Wirtley.

Samuel and his wife spent their last days with daughter Sally (Mrs. Lewis) McDonald in Trap Hill District.
