Ida Mae Aikins

Ida Mae Aikins, 82, of West Leechburg, formerly of Elderton died Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at West Haven Nursing Home, in Apollo.

She was born Aug. 24, 1927, in Cowanshannock Township, to Raymond and Blanche (Goldstrohm) Rearick.

Mrs. Aikins was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and was a resident of Elderton most of her life.

Ida Mae was a hard-working, self-employed cleaning lady for many years in and around Elderton. She enjoyed baking and listening to her son's band. During the past two years as a resident of Westview Manor Personal Care Home, she took pleasure in getting her nails painted and playing bingo. Her true adoration was her family and spending time with her grandson, Michael.

She is survived by her son, Jim Aikins and his wife, Lynne, of West Leechburg; a brother, Ronald Rearick and his wife, Ora Lee, of Frewsburg, N.Y.; four sisters, Jean Keeler, of Gastown, Doris Kuhn and her husband, Leo, of Cadogan, Lois Schrecongost and husband, Roland, of Dayton, and Shirley Kulick, of Rural Valley; and her grandson, Michael Aikins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles F. "Chuck" Aikins, whom she married June 28, 1947, and who died June 7, 2008; and her sister, Evelyn Crytzer.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the CLARK CHAPEL OF THE BAUER FUNERAL HOME, Elderton. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. Friday until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with her pastor, the Rev. Joyce Dix-Weiers, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Elderton Cemetery, Armstrong County.
