Funeral services for David Lee Sheffield, age 90, of Brownwood will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 , 2010, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with James Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Anna Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

He was born April 26, 1920, in Concho, Texas, to James and Fanny (Conner) Sheffield.

David was married to Mary Marjorie Cardwell on May 21, 1948, in Ballinger, Texas. He worked for Thompson's Surplus for 34 years, was a member of the Concho Baptist Church and the VFW. David served in the United States Army, C.D.C 102 Med-Regt. overseas for a year and a half, and as a Pharmistic-T5 in Fort Ordo-California under Major Giltner. He was sitting in his barracks at San Antonio when the announcing of the Pearl Harbor bombing came. From there he was sent to Camp Barkeley in Abilene, then to Hawaii for training, and back to Fort Ordd to dispensary. He received the American Defense Service Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and two Overseas Service Bars for periods covering 7, April 1942, to 14, May 1943.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven Curtis Sheffield in 1961; his parents; four brothers; and three sisters.

Memorials may be made to the Abilene-West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
