Gladys Pearl Mead of Eureka, died on Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka at the age of 79. She was born on April 30, 1930, in Eureka, the daughter of Woodson and Birdie (Poe) Samuels. She was raised in Eureka and graduated from local schools. After her schooling, she worked at McMullens, was a cook at the hospital and country club and was a homemaker. She also worked at Howards AF Super as a cashier for over 25 years.

Gladys was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church.

She is survived by four sons, all of Eureka; one daughter, Pamela Gibson of Eureka; sixteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Forcum of Eureka. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles Samuels and Everett "Buster" Samuels, and a granddaughter, Rachel.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 12, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Jefferson Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O.Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
