Everett D. Abernathy, 89, of Urbana passed away at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at Heartland Health Care Center, Champaign.
He was born Oct. 13, 1920, in Urbana, a son of Walter and Christine Dieterle Abernathy. He married Emma Smith on Aug. 21, 1944 in East St. Louis. She preceded him in death on Jan. 6, 1993. He was also preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Rose Appl.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He then served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
