"SCHENEVUS -- Mrs. Martha Tice died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tyler Chase, Monday afternoon. Mrs. Tice had been a semi-invalid for a number of years, but the past two years had been confined most of the time to bed, where she had been tenderly cared for by the entire family. Mrs. Tice was born in Decatur, November 12, 1842, a daughter of Amos and Laney Daley Boorn. She was a twin sister of the late Mrs. Floyd Lowell and the youngest, save one of a family of nine children, all of whom are now dead. In 1853, Mrs. Tice was married to Levi Tice of Seward, who died a number of years ago, after which she made her home with her sister until her death, ten years ago. Since then, she had made her home with her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tyler M. Chase. She received her education in the public school of her native town, Cherry Valley Academy and Fort Plain Literary Institute. After completing her studies, she taught school for a time. She spent the greater part of her married life in Schenevus ... She is survived by her daughter, one son, Fred Tice, of Maryland, N. Y.; five grandchildren, Sawyer Chase, Earlville; Ford Chase, of Oswego; John Chase of Oxford; Nia Chase, who remained at home, and has given her untiring care, Mrs. W. C. Still of this village, and six greatgrandchildren, Miss Grace B. Lowell of this village and Mrs. Homer Eckerson of Mechanicville are nieces, and Dr. Lowell Eckerson of Brooklyn, a great-nephew. The funeral, which was largely attended by relatives and friends, was held from the Tillapaugh Funeral Home Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. The Rev. Franklin B. Dodd officiated. Burial in Schenevus cemetery. A profusion of flowers showed the high esteem in which Mrs. Tice was held in the community."
